In a recent article for The Athletic, Matt Woosnam claimed that Crystal Palace are ‘prepared to offload’ Andros Townsend this summer.

Since joining Crystal Palace in what was a £14.04 million deal from Newcastle United back in 2016, Townsend, who is now valued at £8.55 million (as per Transfermarkt), has gone on to make 149 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 15 goals and providing 23 assists.

Crystal Palace fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Palace 19/20 season quiz. We'll start off with an easy one... Which side did Palace face on the opening day of the 19/20 Premier League season?

However, over the course of last season, the 29-year-old found his playing time somewhat limited, making just 14 starts in the Premier League, with an additional 10 appearances coming from the bench, in which the winger managed to score just one goal and provide one assist, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.56 – ranking him as the club’s 16th-best performer in the league.

And now, it would appear, according to a recent article in The Athletic by Matt Woosnam, that the club are willing to let the winger go this summer:

“Andros Townsend, another adequate depth option but a player whom Palace are prepared to offload despite failing to attract any formal interest. His appearances dropped off significantly in the 2019/20 season – he made only 14 starts (with a further 10 off the bench) after featuring in 36, 36 and 38 Premier League games in his previous three Palace seasons.”

TIF Thoughts…

In another article for The Athletic, the question had been raised whether Townsend fit in at Palace anymore, and, it would appear from this update that the club do not feel like he does.

In addition to this, with the Palace said to be keen on lowering the average age of their squad by making younger signings over the summer transfer window, such as the reported interest in Queens Park Rangers attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze, it would very much appear that the 29-year-old will be out with the old sooner rather than later.
