On the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on the 3-0 friendly win against Ipswich Town, and sharing his thoughts on some of the transfer business that could still be done by the North London club this summer.

One topic of discussion on the recent video was the performance of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the win against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

It was the Danish international’s first appearance for Spurs since making the move from Southampton earlier this month, and it seems as if, from what Gold has to say, that he impressed against the League One side.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about the 25-year-old during the video:

“Let’s go straight to the debut man, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. [He] played well, really interesting, I think a lot of people were surprised [with] the way he played because we know he’s not an absolute archetype for the defensive-midfielder role but we know about his ball recovery, [it was the] best in the Premier League last season. His role [on Saturday] was very advanced, it was like an advanced pressing animal, in a way, he was constantly just patrolling in the opposition half and maybe that’s where he gets a lot of his ball recoveries, perhaps.

“He was constantly hassling and harrying and he was playing with Harry Winks, and if anything Harry Winks was playing as the anchorman and it was just allowing Hojbjerg [to get] up there and [to get] in people’s faces and breaking everything they did down. It worked a treat. The second goal was very much because Dele Alli had pressed the ‘keeper, the ‘keeper played the ball out and Hojbjerg came from nowhere, slid in, took the ball, gave it back to Alli, who set up [Heung-Min] Son to finish.

“He played well, he doesn’t stop talking, you can see the leadership on the pitch. He very much is a guy who constantly talks, constantly is applauding other players, encouraging them. He’s a potential captain, of course, he is.”

TIF Thoughts…

From the sounds of things, Hojbjerg has already made a big impression on Gold for the way he played against Ipswich Town last weekend. It is no surprise to hear the journalist praising the Danish international’s leadership and touting him as a potential future captain, with the midfielder having previously captained Southampton in his career.

Can you see Hojbjerg captaining Spurs in the future?

Hopefully, for Spurs fans, the former Bayern Munich man will be able to bring that sort of leadership and fight into Spurs’ midfield on a regular basis during the 2020/21 campaign.
