On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Jamie Brown and Jason McGovern have been reviewing Tottenham Hotspur’s 2019/20 campaign, with a focus on key results across the season, the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and appointment of Jose Mourinho, as well as the best and worst performers for the Lilywhites.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled ‘2019/20 Season Review & Awards‘, was Serge Aurier. Despite impressing in the Premier League last season – averaging a strong 7.06/10 rating for across his 33 performances in the top flight (as per WhoScored) – the Ivory Coast international has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan in recent weeks, and it seems as if Brown would be happy to see him leave.

Here’s what Brown had to say about the former PSG man on the podcast:

“Of course, Serge Aurier – we relied very heavily on Serge Aurier in terms of the way that we played in terms of getting forward. But I just don’t think that Serge Aurier is good enough for Tottenham Hotspur, certainly not on the defensive side.”

TIF Thoughts…

WhoScored lists one of Aurier’s weaknesses as his concentration, so you can perhaps see why Brown feels that defending is not the Ivorian’s best attribute, and when you consider that the Lilywhites kept just eight clean sheets in the most recent Premier League season, perhaps a defensive re-shape is on the cards ahead of next season.

Do you agree that Aurier isn't good enough defensively?

Yes

No

However, with the loaned-out Kyle Walker-Peters also being linked with a permanent move to Southampton, it would perhaps be unwise to let the 27-year-old complete a move to AC Milan, unless Jose Mourinho is willing to trust youngsters Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth as the club’s only right-back options ahead of next season, with both having featured there occasionally in the past.
