Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano recently appeared on an episode of The Beautiful Game podcast, to discuss some of the biggest transfer rumours from this summer.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode was the future of Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier. The former PSG man has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan in recent weeks, and it seems as if Romano feels that the Ivory Coast international could be close to joining Stefano Pioli’s side.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about the 27-year-old on the podcast when asked about the validity of the recent transfer rumours:

“It’s absolutely true because Serge Aurier is the main target for Milan at right-back. They have an agreement with the player. We have to say what will happen between the two clubs, because Milan are going to offer €15 million and Tottenham are going to ask [for] €20 million so there is a small difference, but I’m convinced this is a possible deal.”

TIF Thoughts…

From what Romano has to say, Milan and Spurs just need to agree on a fee for Aurier, with him having already agreed terms with I Rossoneri. It is perhaps a surprise to hear that the Lilywhites are willing to let him leave, after his impressive performances in the Premier League; which saw him rated as their third-best player across the 2019/20 season, as he earned a 7.06 average rating (per WhoScored).

With fellow right-back Kyle Walker-Peters also expected to join Southampton on a permanent deal, it seems as if Spurs’ priority will be to bring in a new right-back in the summer window, should Aurier complete a move to AC Milan in the coming weeks, otherwise, they will be without a natural right-back in their side.
