LFC Daytrippers contributor Grizz Khan has revealed that according to his sources, Liverpool have recently rejected a bid from Aston Villa for striker Divock Origi during a recent edition of the podcast.
Despite making as many as 28 appearances in the Premier League for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season, Origi was only a starter 18% of the time (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). The Belgian contributed four goals and three assists throughout the successful league campaign, including a brace in the Merseyside derby.
Dean Smith’s Aston Villa narrowly escaped relegation last season and according to Khan, the Midlands club have seen their advances regarding the 25-year-old rebuffed. Speaking on Thursday evening, he revealed: “A £17m bid was refused today [for Divock Origi from Aston Villa]”.
The Belgian initially signed for Liverpool from Lille back in 2014 in a deal reportedly worth £11.37m and prior to establishing himself as a member of the club’s first-team squad he spent time on loan back at the French outfit and at the Bundesliga side Wolfsburg (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Origi has scored some important goals for the Merseyside giants, for example, he scored the second goal in the club’s UEFA Champions League final triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid last season (via BBC Sport).
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the player is valued at £14.40m and therefore you could argue that Aston Villa’s alleged bid was a fair one, however, it appears Liverpool value him at more. It remains to be seen whether Villa will come back with an improved offer but until they or somebody else do, Origi will remain a Liverpool player.
