Journalist Alasdair Gold has delivered his verdict about Tottenham’s potential signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Gold was recently talking about many things involving Spurs in the latest video of his YouTube channel. One thing he focused on was Hojbjerg and Spurs’ potential signing of the Danish midfielder this summer.

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

It has been reported that 25-year-old Hojbjerg was to undergo his Spurs medical on Monday. It is said that Spurs and Southampton had agreed a deal for the midfielder last week.

When talking about Hojbjerg, Gold said that he is the sort of signing that Mourinho wants and talked about the midfielder’s potential signature in a positive sense. He also revealed that Spurs had ‘sounded out’ the Saints back in January.

Gold said: “I’ve seen some people getting a little bit: is it that great? Is it that big a signing? Why is everyone getting excited?

Will Hojbjerg be a success at Tottenham?

Absolutely!

Absolutely!

“I think the key thing about him is that he’s pretty much just exactly what Mourinho wants. That’s the most important thing right now. We talk about Tottenham Hotspur buying players over the years and maybe buying players that the fans want, or the fans wanting certain transfer targets. The most important thing is when a manager identifies a player and he wants them, you go out and get them. Doesn’t always work, like [Tanguy] Ndombele last summer. That was [Mauricio] Pochettino’s top target – hasn’t worked yet, hopefully, it will in the long-term.

“Mourinho’s been very clear. Spurs have sounded out Southampton about Hojbjerg in January. It wasn’t the right time to move, now it is. He is doing his medical today at Hotspur Way this morning.”

TIF Thoughts…

As per WhoScored, some of Hojbjerg’s main strengths lie in intercepting the ball and concentration. Tackling is also an important part of his style of play. Aerial duels are also a strength of his.

Spurs’ weaknesses in the 2019/20 season were aerial duels and stopping opponents from creating chances. So in that sense, Hojbjerg could fix some of Spurs’ weaknesses through his main strengths. He could help them get better at aerial duels and his interception abilities might make sure that they stop the opposition from creating chances.

This shows that signing Hojbjerg could be a smart move from Spurs and the fans should be excited about this.
