Mark Douglas has been speaking on a recent episode of the Everything is Black and White Podcast, and he has been discussing the failed takeover of Newcastle United.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

Douglas used a lot of his time to talk about the fallout from Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed group withdrawing their offer to buy the Toon from Mike Ashley.

One of the topics that The Chronicle reporter discussed was the plans that the group had for Newcastle that were revealed in The Athletic.

However, Douglas still sounded impressed by what they were going to do.

“I’ve been privy to some of the plans, which I think now most of them are out in the public domain.

“They do sound like impressive plans, you have to be honest. The kind of money that they were talking about would unlock a lot of doors for Newcastle.”

As has been revealed by other sources, the consortium had some good plans for the Toon that impressed Douglas.

Do you think at some point these plans will come to fruition?

Yes, the takeover will happen

TIF Thoughts…

The consortium had planned to invest £250m into the club.

Then other money for outside investments and the Reuben brothers, via Martin Cruddace, confirmed that they were going to turn Newcastle into a major sporting hub.

When you see these ideas and investment opportunities spelled out in black & white, it is no wonder that the council leader of Newcastle wanted this takeover to go ahead because they were not only going to improve the team but also invest in the city as well.

The deal, though, is not dead yet, and it is clear that Douglas was impressed (11:10) by what he had seen from the consortium, so we will have to see if they do get the chance to put those plans in place.
