Mark Douglas has been speaking on a recent episode of the Everything is Black and White Podcast, and has been talking about Henry Mauriss and other things related to the takeover of Newcastle United.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The Chronicle reporter spent a little bit of time on the American Mauriss, who supposedly bid £350m for the Toon in June, but nothing else has happened since.

This led to Douglas talking about Mauriss and if he is a serious bidder for the Toon.

He said: “Mauriss has two or three people that I know who I would trust [have] verified him and believe that his Clear TV company are genuine bidders.

“It’s my understanding that if it is the case that there is somebody there, they would have to have other backers, there would have to be other people behind it.

“So, it may be that somebody else is there as well.

“I am sorry, but I am going to be a little bit sceptical at this point because we were told in the process that a bid of £350m had already been submitted and had almost been accepted.

“So, if that’s the case, surely it should move really, really quickly now.”

According to some of Douglas’ sources, Mauriss is genuine, but he would need help from other backers, but The Chronicle reporter is still unconvinced about Mauriss.

Can you see Mauriss coming up with a genuine bid?

No, he will be gone soon

TIF Thoughts…

On 30th July, Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium withdrew their offer to buy Newcastle, and this left Mauriss with a clear run to buy the Toon.

He was apparently set a deadline of until the 14th of August to sort out a deal and Mike Ashley also told him to prove he has the funds and pay a non-refundable deposit.

Since then, we have heard nothing about Mauriss or his bid, which might not be a bad thing because there may be work going on behind the scenes, but it is clear that Mauriss does not convince Douglas.

We will just have to see if the American is close to doing a deal for the Toon or not.
