The Shields Gazette’s Liam Kennedy has been discussing Michael Chopra’s involvement with prospective Newcastle United owners Bellagraph Nova Group (BNG).

Supposedly, the Toon have held talks with the Singapore-backed company regarding a takeover of the club which BNG revealed in a statement (via The Independent).

The statement from Bellagraph Nova Group also stated that they had ‘enlisted help‘ from former Newcastle players Alan Shearer and Chopra.

During his career, Chopra made 31 appearances for Newcastle in which he scored just three goals (per Transfermarkt).

So, in a recent episode of NUFC Matters on YouTube, Kennedy discussed the Englishman’s involvement with BNG.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

He said: “I think Michael Chopra has good intentions, I think he wants this deal. He’s trying to be the saviour of Newcastle United.

“He’s seen the deal collapse and he came in himself and said, ‘Well, I’m going to try and fix this and bring people to the table.’

“You know what, he’s done that – but do I think they’ll follow through with an acceptable bid in Mike Ashley’s eyes? I’m not sure they will.

“They say they will, but we’ve heard this before. We’ve seen people come and go throughout the 13 years of Mike Ashley where they’ve promised the world and never really delivered.”

TIF Thoughts…

Clearly, the journalist believes that the 36-year-old former Toon striker has the best intentions, although, it would appear he does not believe that BNG will take over the club.

Does Michael Chopra's involvement make BNG's supposed bid more believable?

Yes, I think it does

Yes, I think it does

No, I don't think so

No, I don't think so

However, with the company themselves having stated that they are willing to ‘massively contribute‘ to Newcastle’s development, only time will tell if that comes to fruition.
