Lee Ryder has been speaking on a recent episode of the Everything is Black and White Podcast about Henry Mauriss’ interest in buying Newcastle United.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The Chronicle reporter also spoke about the Premier League’s continued silence after Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium withdrew their offer to buy Newcastle United on the 30th of July.

However, before he got into that, he discussed Mauriss.

He said: “If you speak to people who are in and around the [Mike] Ashley camp, they’ve been maintaining that he [Mauriss] is a contender in that he is interested in buying Newcastle United, but when he’s been approached, which we [the Chronicle] have done, we haven’t had anything on the record, which would be helpful as far as fans are concerned, because I think a lot of fans don’t believe he is genuinely in the running.”

Ryder clearly is frustrated that he has not been able to get anything from Mauriss to confirm that he is genuine, but Ashley’s camp seem to believe he is.

Do you think Mauriss is a contender to buy Newcastle?

TIF Thoughts…

Now that Staveley’s group have pulled out the path is clear for Mauriss to sort out a takeover of the club.

However, he has been set a deadline to get the deal sorted and must prove he has the funds to take the deal onto the next stage.

Mauriss’ interest in buying Newcastle has been around since April.

So, now that Staveley’s group have withdrawn, it will be interesting to see if he does put together a bid to take Newcastle from Ashley.
