Many Newcastle United supporters have responded to a recent Twitter post from Steve Wraith in which he highlights what he describes as ‘disgraceful journalism’ by Daniel Harris of the Guardian.
Wraith shared a screenshot from one of Harris’ recent pieces in which he says: ‘Newcastle plan to rebound from the disappointment of not being owned by human rights abusers.’
He then goes on to claim the Toon are interested in signing Bournemouth duo Josh King and David Brooks and continues on to say that the pair are likely to have ‘better offers’ on the table, before finally mocking the supporters who have been involved with the petition to directed towards the Premier League demanding answers with regards to the failed takeover of the club by the Saudi-backed consortium which pulled out of the process last week.
Here is how a sample of the St. James’ Park faithful have responded to the post.
How can journalists written and be printing that? Another bias against #NUFC is he trying to stop the heat piling on the @premierleague what’s his payment been? #PremierLeagueAreCorrupt

Said it the other day. Theyre going to come at us from all angles. Siege mentality required.

Were you offended by the journalist's words?
Yes
No
It’s clear that these Newcastle United fans have been less than impressed by Harris’ comments and many more continued to make their feelings known.
Anyone know how i can make a formal complaint? I find that extremely offensive. Perhaps he should learn to be more objective as a jounalist and leave his own agenda alone. WE MUST USE THIS AS MOTIVATION TO STAND UNITED

Sums it up. Some of the media are prepared to take cheap shots at supporters for caring about their club rather than looking deeper into the issues about how the PL has conducted themselves in this case. The “petition” line really strikes as an attempt to mock fans once again.

In our view, the writer’s intentions were to spark some form of reaction and judging by the above responses, he has clearly succeeded. In Harris’ defence, it is clearly a light-hearted transfer rumours article, so Newcastle fans shouldn’t perhaps take his words to heart.
