Journalist and Aston Villa fan James Hendicott has been sharing his thoughts on Villa’s club captain Jack Grealish and a potential transfer away from Villa Park this summer for him.

This comes after Hendicott recently made an appearance on the latest episode of Villa-themed podcast For The Love of Paul McGrath, where he spoke about a range of topics related to the club.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

After it was reported that Villa’s owners value Grealish at £80 million with Manchester United reportedly interested in signing the Englishman this summer, Hendicott shared his thoughts on the matter.

He said: “The story of the summer is going to be a Grealish does-he-stay-or-does-he-go situation, isn’t it? What I’m really hoping is that the board stand by their £80 million [valuation], because I think a lot of the clubs that are in for him don’t value him at that and he’s clearly worth the £80 million for Villa, and I absolutely don’t think we should sell him for less than that. Ideally, I don’t think we should sell him at all, but I mean, if we have to let him go, I’d be wanting the £80 million – but is he worth £80 million to Man United? Probably not, but that’s going to be the story of whether we can kind of stick to our guns, I think.”

Grealish made his senior debut for Villa back in 2014 during a 4-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City when he was just 18 years old.

Since then, the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at £36 million by Transfermarkt, has made 187 appearances for the Villa senior side, in which he has managed to score 25 goals and provide 31 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 2019/20 Premier League season saw Grealish in fine form for Dean Smith’s side. In 36 league appearances, Grealish scored eight goals and provided six assists for his teammates. His performances in those appearances earned him a season rating of 7.23/10, making him Villa’s highest-rated player for the campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

Considering how impressive Grealish was for Villa throughout the 2019/20 Premier League season, it comes as no surprise that the club owners value the Englishman at £80 million.

It will be interesting to see if any club will be willing to pay that transfer fee for Grealish this summer and whether Villa will accept it or not.
