Many Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to a Twitter post from @NUFC360 relaying a report that claims Watford striker Troy Deeney has been offered to the club.
The report comes from Chronicle Live and claims that the Magpies are one of a number of clubs who ‘have been offered the services’ of the attacker ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
Deeney captained the Watford side that was relegated from the English top-flight last season, despite him chipping in with 10 league goals and two assists (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).
Following this news, here is how a sample of the St. James’ Park faithful have responded on social media.
Deeney would be miles better than anyone of ours when fit

That would be a very good signing

I know Troy’s best days are behind him, but he was a very decent player in his day and tbh, I reckon he’d be a decent upgrade to what we have. Although we need to be more ambitious than this, being realistic of who we will actuallygo for, he’s a good option.

Would definitely take him. Him and Callum Wilson would be great signings and solve our striker problem finally

Would you like to see Troy Deeney sign for Newcastle?
Yes
No
It’s clear from the above responses that many of these Newcastle fans would be happy to see the club bring Deeney to the North East this summer. However, others had a slightly differing view.
This is tragic
Our main strike force could potentially be all over the hill injury prone strikers— Phyll Perrins (@ThePhyll13) August 27, 2020
He isn’t prolific, he has only scored more then 10 in a season once, 5 years ago.

Troy Deeney’s average performance rating during the most recent Premier League season was a solid 7.05/10 according to WhoScored.com, that is significantly better than the 6.67/10 rating Joelinton earned last season.
Based on that, and the fact the Watford striker managed eight more league goals than the Brazilian, you could argue he would be an upgrade on what Steve Bruce currently has at his disposal.
