To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

In reaction to the footage, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many praising the forward for the finish, while others joked that the goal by Carroll meant the club would not be signing a new striker this summer.

Since rejoining Newcastle from West Ham on a free transfer last summer, Carroll has made 19 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring no goals but providing four assists, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.60.

Having said this, only four of these 19 appearances were starts, as the 31-year-old struggled with a variety of injuries throughout the season, something which has been a feature of his career thus far.

Do you think Carroll still has what it takes to play in the Premier League?

So, from their comments, it would appear that, while some did joke that Carroll’s fine finish may mean Steve Bruce does not buy a new striker this summer, many of the Newcastle fans are delighted with their centre-forward, with one fan even claiming that he is club’s best striker at present.
