Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal has been discussing the situation regarding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract in the recent video on his YouTube channel.

The Gabonese striker joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund back in January 2018 in a deal reportedly worth £57.38m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). However, his current contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire at the end of next season, fuelling much speculation regarding his future but according to the journalist, the 31-year-old has committed his future to the North London giants.

He said: “As far as we’re all aware, that deal has been done and we’re just waiting for an announcement.”

During the 2019/20 campaign, his average performance rating in the Premier League was 7.03/10 according to WhoScored.com – highlighting how consistently he performed despite the team enduring a difficult season in which Unai Emery was sacked and the club finished in a disappointing eighth place.

Although they were unable to achieve their targets in the league, Mikel Arteta led Arsenal to FA Cup glory, defeating Manchester City and Chelsea along the way. Having scored a brace in the semi-final victory over Pep Guardiola’s side, Aubameyang proved the match-winner again in the final – once again, highlighting his importance to the team.

Aubameyang has proven himself to be an excellent signing, a statement supported by the fact he has scored an impressive 70 goals and provided 15 assists in just 109 appearances for the Gunners.

In our view, keeping hold of him is as important as any business the club will do this summer and judging by Watts’ comments it seems an official announcement is imminent.
