A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from Luke Edwards after he offered an update on Henry Mauriss.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The Daily Telegraph reporter declared that he is ‘not personally invested‘ in Mauriss’ bid to purchase the Toon and explained that he was just reporting the information that he had been given.

He then followed this post up with two other tweets in which he stated that it is up to Clear TV to provide proof that they have the money to buy Newcastle and that he never said that Mauriss would buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley.

This has drawn the attention of these Newcastle fans who feel that Edwards is backtracking.

Do you think Mauriss is still genuine?

No, what a waste of time

Yes, he will come up with a bid

Edwards did claim that Mauriss was ‘poised to make a formal offer‘ for Newcastle United and that when Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium withdrew their offer, Mauriss believed he was ‘in pole position’ to buy Newcastle.

He also had his doubts over Staveley and PIF and in the end, they were proven to be correct as the bid was withdrawn.

The Premier League’s response has also shown that the consortium were given the chance to prove that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the Saudi state would have control of Newcastle, but they refused, so Edwards was right to be cautious of this group.

However, other Toon supporters have used this post to take aim at Mauriss.

It has been claimed that Ashley is preparing a statement that will call Mauriss and the Bellagraph Nova Group timewasters.

So, it remains to be seen what happens with Mauriss, but it is clear that many Newcastle fans feel that Edwards is backtracking on what he said about the American.
