Liam Kennedy has been speaking on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith and has been talking about the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

Kennedy discussed many things during his appearance on NUFC Matters and one thing he touched on was the proposed takeover by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium.

He talked about progress being made on the bid that was withdrawn on the 30th of July.

It seems as if talks are happening, and Kennedy is happy that they are taking place away from the public eye.

He said: “I’m not trying to lead you down the garden path, but things are going on, and they’re probably going on the best way they possibly could, in the way we all wished this had happened in the first place – everybody’s hush-hush.

“Get it done – either get it done or get to a point where you can say ‘sorry, it’s not going to happen’ and walk away.

“We don’t want this played out in public.

“I think the best way to do this – it’s a business deal – just talk behind the scenes, let’s not have the leaks and if they can get it done, get it done quietly.”

Do you agree with Kennedy?

TIF Thoughts…

The news about this deal first broke in January. In April, it looked as if it was a done deal with a deposit paid, and the deal just needed the Premier League’s confirmation; however, that never arrived, and at the end of July the bid was withdrawn.

Since then, the Premier League have issued a statement on the failed takeover and there has been talk of a compromise and confidence from the Staveley group that they can find a solution that will allow them to buy Newcastle.

It seems as if talks are happening, though; it is unclear what these discussions are about, but in Kennedy’s view, it is good they are taking place in private.

If that makes the takeover more likely to happen, then for the sake of Newcastle fans, we hope these talks taking place in private lead to a successful conclusion.
