Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the future of Manchester United star Paul Pogba during a recent edition of The Beautiful Game podcast

The French central midfielder returned to Old Trafford from Italian giants Juventus in a deal worth £94.5m back in the summer of 2016. The player’s current contract is due to expire at the end of next season (via Transfermarkt.co.uk), but according to Romano, negotiations between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and the 27-year-old over an extension are likely to take place in the coming weeks.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

Here is what he had to say to the panel: “He wants to focus on Manchester United and I think soon he will start to speak with Mino Raiola to consider extending his contract with Manchester United. For sure, Manchester United want to extend the contract with Pogba, but they have to speak. It’s never easy when there is Raiola in some deals because he wants important contracts for his players but for sure, they will speak on the next [few] weeks.”

The £72m-rated star was limited to just 16 Premier League appearances in the 2019/20 season due to injury (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk), however, the break in the competition due to the pandemic provided Pogba with the time to get fit again and play a role in the club’s end to the season, with United still going strong in the Europa League.

TIF Thoughts…

United have already qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League after finishing third in the English top flight, and having formed a ‘deadly’ partnership with Bruno Fernandes in the team’s midfield, it seems, judging by Romano’s comments, that there is a desire from all parties to see Pogba’s stay at Old Trafford extended further.
