Jan Aage Fjortoft has recently made a claim about Jadon Sancho and Manchester United’s chase of the Borussia Dortmund star.

Fjortoft was recently a guest on the latest episode of The Football Show on Off the Ball podcast. He was asked about many things involving German football and this included Sancho and the current situation at Dortmund surrounding his future. Fjortoft believes that the German club’s stance will ‘change’ if Sancho asks to leave Dortmund this summer.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke was recently talking to RTL (via Sport1) and reaffirmed Michael Zorc’s previous claims, stating that Sancho will ‘play for’ the Bundesliga side in the 2020/21 season, calling it a ‘definitive’ decision. Dortmund had initially set a deadline of 10th August for Man United to move for Sancho.

Fjortoft said that this isn’t a ‘strategy’ from Dortmund and they indeed want the Englishman to stay, and suggested that things can ‘change’ if the United target makes his desire to leave clear.

He said: “It’s fair enough for a club to say that ‘when we go [into our] training camp, we want to have all the players that we will plan for next season’. Manchester United would have done the same with [Mason] Greenwood.

Will Sancho stay at Dortmund this summer?

No, he'll leave

No, he'll leave

Yes, he'll stay

Yes, he'll stay

“Sometimes when you do that, people don’t want to listen to that, but [it] is most likely that the player will stay at Dortmund. This is not a game and strategy of Dortmund – they want him to stay. If the player goes out and [says] -‘I want to leave the club, I want to join Manchester United’, [the] game will, of course, change. As for the 14th of August, there hasn’t even been a bid from Manchester United. So at the moment, it is most likely that he will stay in Dortmund.”

TIF Thoughts…

Sancho is said to be United’s ‘top’ target for the summer transfer window and Dortmund have made it clear to them that they would want a fee of more than £100m to part ways with the Englishman (as per BBC Sport).

Fabrizio Romano has already claimed that personal terms between United and Sancho have been agreed. He also revealed that the two clubs are in talks, but no agreement has been reached yet.

It will be interesting to see if United do agree a fee with Dortmund, as that appears to be the only thing that is left to negotiate in this saga.
