Manchester City journalist Adam Crafton has shared his thoughts on City’s transfer plans and what the Manchester club are still looking to do throughout the window.

This comes after Crafton recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast to talk through the biggest stories surrounding Pep Guardiola’s side at the moment.

Man City fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Yaya Toure quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who did Yaya Toure sign for City from back in 2010?

On the topic of what the club will be looking to do throughout the remainder of the current summer transfer window, Crafton had this to say on the matter.

He said: “They want to try and move several players out, that’s not going to be easy in this market. But we know that they’ve already signed Nathan Ake, Ferran Torres, they’ll go for another significant centre-half. I think they want a striker now, as well. The one position I don’t think they’ll strengthen is central midfield and they need and they still need to get a left-back in.

“So, you’re looking at a really significant summer spend to allow Guardiola to take this squad on again, but I do think that they’re now a stage where the players, I think they need a couple of big performances early on at the start of next season, just to fully regain that trust in what Guardiola is telling them.”

As well as bringing in Ake and Torres as Crafton mentioned, City have also said goodbye to some of their players this summer such as David Silva, Claudio Bravo and Leroy Sane.

One player City have been linked with this summer that would fill one of the positions Crafton listed in the podcast would be Napoli centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly.

TIF Thoughts…

You would think that City’s main stance in the transfer window this summer would be to prioritise replacing the players that have left and then focus on adding players in that could boost their squad as they prepare for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

It will be interesting to see if any more current City players leave the club this summer and if the Manchester club then manage to bring any more new players in.
