Football journalist David Ornstein has shared some news regarding Manchester City’s transfer pursuit of Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

This comes after Ornstein recently hosted an episode of The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast where he spoke about a range of news topics related to a number of Premier League clubs.

Man City fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Yaya Toure quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who did Yaya Toure sign for City from back in 2010?

After it has been previously reported that both City and their close rivals Manchester United are interested in signing Grealish this summer, Ornstein shared some insight into the current situation.

He said: “My understanding is that actually, Manchester City have shown more interest than Manchester United at this point in time; we know that Aston Villa will want to keep him. They may even want to sign him to a new contract. I think Grealish would be happy to move on for a Champions League club this summer. He’s given great service to Aston Villa, but the amount of money that Villa’s wealthy owners would want for him in the transfer fee may prevent that from happening.”

Grealish made his Premier League debut for Villa against City back in 2014 when he was 18-years-old. In total, the Englishman has made a total of 187 appearances for the Birmingham club in which he has scored 25 goals and provided 31 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old was Villa’s standout performer throughout their 2019/20 Premier League campaign, earning himself a season rating of 7.23/10 for his performances in the 36 league appearances he made for Dean Smith’s side last season.

TIF Thoughts…

With Grealish having a superb season at Villa last year and helping them avoid relegation on the last day of the campaign, it would be interesting to see if he can perform at the same standard next season for a team nearer the top of the table like City, if he were to make a move to Manchester this summer.
