Liverpool could be set to miss out on signing Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara this summer.

This comes after it was recently reported in an article from German media outlet Abendzeitung Munchen that Liverpool would not be willing to splash the cash for Thiago this summer, with Le 10 Sport claiming that French side Paris Saint-Germain would be willing to spend a reported fee of €30 million (£26.9 million) to sign the midfielder.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

The Spaniard, who is currently valued at £43.2 million according to Transfermarkt, signed to the German club back in 2013 from Barcelona for a fee of £22.5 million.

Since then, the 29-year-old has gone on to make 231 appearances for Bayern in which he has managed to score 31 goals and provide 37 assists during that time (per Transfermarkt).

Unfortunately, Thiago has had to deal with his fair share of injuries since he arrived in Germany which has disrupted his playing time at Bayern.

The 2019/20 Bundesliga season saw Thiago make 24 appearances for the club. His performances in those appearances earned himself a season rating of 7.47/10, making him Bayern’s fourth-highest rated player for the campaign.

Despite him having an impressive season for Bayern, it was recently reported that Thiago had made it known to the bosses at Bayern that he wants to leave the club this summer.

TIF Thoughts…

With Liverpool having missed out on Timo Werner due to financial reasons earlier in the year, it would make sense that they would be reluctant to spend some money on Thiago this summer as well.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool do decide to spend some money this summer and bring any new players in ahead of the upcoming Premier League season as they aim to regain their title.
