Gavin Doyle, Grizz Khan, Keith Plunkett and Sean Lawson discussed all things Liverpool on the latest edition of LFC Daytrippers’ FB4 Podcast, with the panel spending some time talking about Reds winger Xherdan Shaqiri during the show.

After joining Liverpool from Stoke City back in July 2018 for £13.23m, Shaqiri made 30 appearances for the Reds in the 2018/19 season, scoring six goals, providing five assists and winning the second UEFA Champions League of his career.

However, while the Swiss winger won his first Premier League title in the 2019/20 campaign, it may be fair to say that his second season at Anfield was not as positive as his first, as he made just 11 appearances for the Merseyside club in all competitions, scoring one goal and failing to provide a single assist.

There has been some speculation over the 28-year-old’s future this summer, with Italian journalist Nicolo Schira recently claiming that Serie A side Lazio ‘are looking’ at the player, During this recent edition of LFC Daytrippers’ FB4 Podcast, Lawson shared some doubt over the winger’s future at Anfield.

He said: “Shaqiri is one of those players where you don’t really have any issue with his ability, it’s his availability.

“I think he’s a brilliant player when fit, but if there [were] a suitable offer to come in for him, he’d be another one who I reckon is off straight away.”

So, Lawson appears to believe that the Reds would be open to selling Shaqiri in the current transfer window if another club were to meet their valuation of the winger, and considering that the player made fewer appearances last season than he did in his first season at Anfield, as well as the fact that he did spend some time on the sidelines last term due to injury, as Lawson alluded to, it may be understandable why the podcaster feels that Shaqiri may not be viewed as the most crucial part of the Merseyside club’s team at present.
