Speaking recently on the Blood Red podcast, Matt Addison discussed Liverpool’s new kit deal with manufacturer, Nike.

According to Alan Seymour, a sports market expert who spoke to the Evening Standard, the club’s deal with the American kit manufacturer could be worth ‘as much as £100 million per season’.

This is despite the fact that Liverpool are set to receive £15 million less per year from Nike than their previous deal with New Balance, however, Nike offered the club ’20 per cent royalties on sales of merchandise’, which could see Liverpool earning ‘£80 million each year, perhaps more’ depending on the success of their sales of club merchandise.

And, speaking on the Blood Red podcast, Matt Addison praised Liverpool’s new partnership, mentioning the fact that NBA star LeBron James has already been pictured wearing a Liverpool top since their new Nike kit was released.

He said: “I think it’s an exciting time for Liverpool, financially this is going to be a huge deal – we always knew that. For LeBron James to be involved, even in just a photo opportunity, for him to be doing that already – we’re only six days into this Nike partnership and already they’re putting things like that into action – I think it just goes to show, really, why Billy Hogan and all the people behind the scenes were so excited about this.

“LeBron James wearing a Liverpool shirt – it might not seem massively important on the face of it, but certainly, I think that the underlying message is, this is the first of many times we’ll see things like this – and the more Liverpool’s name can get spread around the world, the more money essentially they will have to spend and improve the playing squad.

“I think Liverpool fans should certainly be excited about seeing images like that coming in from as big an athlete as him.”

TIF Thoughts…

It would appear from Addison’s comments that Liverpool fans certainly have a lot to be excited about regarding their side’s new deal with Nike, which could end up seeing the club pocketing vast sums of money to then spend on their playing squad. Exciting times indeed.
