2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the subject of previous players Liverpool have signed from relegated sides, such as Wijnaldum from Newcastle United back in 2016, Addison shared his thoughts on the Dutchman and his current contract situation at Anfield.

He said: “I suppose the concern with him is now – [he has] less than 12 months left on his contract. No news on that [and] what’s going to happen next. Liverpool certainly won’t want to lose him. I think it’ll be interesting to see whether he feels he’s done everything at Liverpool now he’s won the Champions League, he’s won the Premier League.

“Maybe he would want to go and maybe experience a different league somewhere else, I don’t know, but yeah, fingers crossed, he can obviously sign a new contract because to get somebody as good as Gini Wijnaldum for the fee that it would take, it’s going to be a huge amount of money, whether that’s Thiago [Alcantara], whether that’s someone else, I don’t know, but to be able to replace someone as good as Gini Wijnaldum it’s really, really not going to be a cheap thing for Liverpool to do.”

Since arriving at Liverpool from Newcastle, Wijnaldum has gone on to make a total of 186 appearances for the Reds in which he has scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists along the way.

The 2019/20 Premier League season saw Wijnaldum, who is currently valued at £36 million, make 37 league appearances for Liverpool in which he earned himself a season rating of 6.81/10 for his performances, making him the Reds’ 12th-highest rated player for the campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

As Addison mentioned in the podcast, Wijnaldum’s current contract at the Merseyside club runs out at the end of June next year. The fact that Addison was speaking so highly of Wijnaldum in the podcast and shared his hopes that the midfielder will sign a new contract at the club just goes to show how important Addison feels the Dutchman is to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The fact that Wijnaldum played in all but one of Liverpool’s Premier League matches last season just goes to show how important he is to Klopp as well.
