Joe Thomlinson, Dougie Critchley and Chris Hamill spent some time talking about Leeds United ahead of their Premier League return during the latest edition of Football Daily’s Sunday Vibes and one of the topics of discussion that came up during the show was the Whites’ alleged interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth.

Reports have been linking Leeds with a move for Foyth after the Yorkshire-based club secured promotion to the Premier League from the Championship for the 2020/21 campaign.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

Since joining Spurs from Estudiantes for £11.7m back in 2017, Foyth has made just 32 appearances for Tottenham. He featured in just seven games in all competitions for the north London club in the most recent season, during which he spent some time on the sidelines due to injury, and reports have claimed that he ‘is set to quit Spurs’.

Critchley shared his thoughts on the Argentinian defender joining his compatriot Bielsa at Elland Road during this recent edition of Football Daily’s Sunday Vibes, saying: “I like Juan Foyth. I think he showed that he was pretty tempestuous at times in his desire to sort of crunch into challenges, I remember him getting a few silly bookings, I think he even gave away a couple of penalties – but on the ball, he looks really, really promising.

“He doesn’t seem like he’s in [Jose] Mourinho’s good books whatsoever, so I think a loan for Juan Foyth would be fascinating and [Marcelo] Bielsa clearly rates him from what I’ve read about that, too.”

Would Juan Foyth be a good signing for Leeds if they can't sign Ben White this summer?

TIF Thoughts…

Critchley seems to think that Foyth would be a good option for Leeds on a loan deal for the 2020/21 campaign, whereas previous reports have suggested that the Whites could be targeting Foyth on a permanent deal.

Regardless of what kind of transfer this would be, it may be understandable if Leeds do target a centre-back for next season, considering that Ben White, who played every minute for Leeds in the Championship last season, was only on loan at Elland Road from Brighton and Hove Albion, and the Seagulls have reportedly rejected a second bid of £22m from Leeds for the player.

If Leeds can sign £12.15m-rated Foyth for a lower transfer fee than White, then that transfer may make sense for Bielsa’s side if they think that the Spurs man can fulfil the role in their side.
