LFC Daytrippers and 90Min contributor Grizz Khan has been discussing the links between the Anfield club and the Brighton defender Ben White on a recent edition of the podcast.

White spent the season on loan at Leeds United with whom he played a key role as the club restored their Premier League status after a 16-year absence. The 22-year-old started every single Championship fixture (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) for Marcelo Bielsa’s side last season and according to Khan, his performances have attracted the interest of the English champions.

Speaking on the podcast, he said: “We see Ben White’s future at Liverpool. I believe he’s our number-one choice centre-back, before [the pandemic], 100%. Post [pandemic], I haven’t heard this mentioned but I know we loved him. I think we still want him.”

The centre-back’s performances in the Championship last season earned him an average performance rating of 7.09/10, making him Leeds’ fifth-most consistent performer, again, highlighting the key part he played in their success last season.

TIF Thoughts…

It’s not clear what sort of transfer fee Brighton would be looking for in order to part ways with the centre-back. According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, he is currently valued £4.95m and although we don’t know of a specific asking price for the player, we can safely assume they are going to demand significantly more than that if they do decide to sell.

Liverpool have recently sold Dejan Lovren to Zenit St. Petersburg in a deal reportedly worth €12m (£10.8m). Therefore, it is understandable why they may be on the lookout for a central defender. Judging by Grizz Khan’s comments, it seems Ben White could be one of the candidates to replace the experienced Croatian.
