Football journalist Fabrizio Romano and Bild Sport’s head of football Christian Falk appeared on the latest edition of former Premier League striker Jan Aage Fjortoft’s PodSaveTheBall podcast to discuss the latest Premier League transfer news and the panel spent some time discussing Liverpool’s potential move for Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara during the show.

Thiago has currently got less than a year remaining on his Bayern Munich contract and the midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with the Spain international said to be ‘keen on a move’ to the 2019/20 Premier League champions.

Falk discussed the current status of the Reds’ potential move for the £43.2m-rated midfielder during his recent appearance on PodSaveTheBall, saying: “There is some agreement. He didn’t talk to Bayern Munich about it, but we know it from the dressing room. So, now we are at the point we were before [with] United [regarding Jadon Sancho] and we were before [with] Chelsea [regarding Kai Havertz] – it’s a question of money.

“Bayern Munich won’t let him go for free and they want about €30m or more and Thiago is now in the position to have to bring this from Liverpool.”

So, judging by Falk’s comments on this potential deal, it appears that the Reds will have little trouble convincing Thiago to move to Anfield and the main obstacle for the Merseyside club to overcome now in order to complete this transfer is to find an agreement with Bayern Munich.

The BILD journalist stated that the Bavarian giants are hoping to receive about €30m (£27.07m) for the player and it may be fair to say that this would not be a bad price for the 29-year-old who ended last season as Bayern’s fourth-highest rated player in the Bundesliga with an overall rating of 7.47 according to WhoScored and who is currently valued at £43.2m according to Transfermarkt.

With that in mind, this deal could reach a successful conclusion if the Reds have the required funds available to them in the transfer market.
