Liverpool journalist Matt Addison has suggested that the Reds could ‘walk away’ from their pursuit of Norwich City full-back Jamal Lewis.

This comes after Addison recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast to talk about a variety of news stories surrounding the Merseyside club.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

After it was recently revealed that Liverpool had a bid of £10 million for the left-back rejected by Norwich, Addison shared his thoughts on the current situation.

He said: “I think there will be a point at which they [Liverpool] will walk away from this deal if the fee is not right. Obviously, the fact that they got Andy Robertson so cheap almost points towards that, so it’s going to be interesting to see what happens next with Jamal Lewis.

“They’re certainly not going to get him as cheaply as Andy Robertson, but there is the potential there for that to be equally as much of a bargain.”

Since making his senior debut for Norwich back in 2017, Lewis has gone on to make a total of 100 appearances for their senior side in which he has scored two goals and provided four assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 2019/20 Premier League season saw Lewis make 28 appearances for the Canaries in the league. Lewis’ performances in those appearances earned him a rather uninspiring season rating of 6.46/10 (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to offer a bigger fee to Norwich to try and buy Lewis this summer.

With the current global pandemic having an impact on Premier League clubs and the transfer market this summer, it could be a sensible decision from Liverpool to act shrewdly in their pursuit of Lewis.
