BBC Scotland’s chief sports writer Tom English appeared on the latest edition of the BBC’s Sportsound podcast where he spent some time talking about Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Sunday. The journalist criticised Hoops defender Christopher Jullien for making the foul that gave Kilmarnock a penalty during the game.

Celtic sit in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership table after two games following their 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Sunday. Ryan Christie gave the Hoops the lead in the 11th minute of this game via a free-kick, however, Killie scored an equaliser in the 24th minute from a Chris Burke penalty that was awarded after Jullien ‘hauled down’ Nicke Kabamba inside the box, as per the BBC.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

As can be seen in this footage from the game, Kabamba managed to knock the ball around Jullien and move past the Celtic defender before the Frenchman grabbed the attacker around the waist, resulting in a foul and a penalty being awarded to Kilmarnock.

English shared his thoughts on Jullien’s foul during his recent appearance on the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast and he was critical of the Frenchman, saying: “The foul is absolutely ridiculous. It’s Jullien’s foul on Kabamba for the penalty. He put his arm around his chest and pulled him back.

“Celtic have got defenders back, it’s a hairy situation, but by no means is it a certain goal – very, very far from that. They’ve got defenders back there and Jullien – [it’s] just [an] outrageously stupid decision.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering that his foul ultimately cost Celtic two points from this game, it may be understandable why English was particularly critical of Jullien for committing the foul that resulted in the penalty being awarded and the defender will therefore have to shoulder some responsibility for the outcome of this match.
