Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano recently appeared as a guest on The Beautiful Game podcast, where he has been discussing the latest news on Liverpool’s potential move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been regularly linked with a move for the former Barcelona man in recent weeks, although when questioned about the midfielder, the German manager refused to confirm whether the Reds are actually interested. However, Romano suggests that the Spanish international would love to make the move to Anfield this summer.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Here’s what he had to say about the 29-year-old on the podcast:

“At the moment, the player would like to join Liverpool. He would like to change, to go [to] the Premier League. He’s refusing to extend his contract with Bayern Munich, so at the moment, he is hoping to join some Premier League clubs. The player would love to join Liverpool, he would love to play under Jurgen Klopp as [his] manager.

“He hopes it can be a possibility. Officially, any talks have not started with Bayern Munich. Bayern Munich have not received any bid for Thiago. I think Thiago will leave Bayern Munich this summer, but at the moment, there is not any bid from Liverpool.”

TIF Thoughts…

From the sounds of things, Romano seems confident that the 29-year-old midfielder will leave the Bundesliga champions this summer, but he may wait until the conclusion of the Champions League until deciding on his next move. Hans-Dieter Flick’s side face Chelsea this weekend in the Champions League and will be confident of progressing to the next round, having won the away leg 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Perhaps if the German giants can win the competition, then Thiago will be convinced to stay, but from everything Romano says, he is keen to join Liverpool, so it will be interesting to see if the Reds make an official approach for the £43.2 million-rated man this summer.
