In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the subject of Villa’s new sporting director Johan Lange and what his job at the club will include, Evans revealed how Lange will help Villa sign new players and added this news on Watkins.

He said: “His brief will be to support Dean Smith in the transfer market. Dean Smith will obviously have some of his targets already lined up. Ollie Watkins is top of that striker list. I now know that.

“It will be the job of Lange to recommend other players now, and hopefully unearth some gems that Smith might not have known about.”

Watkins signed to Brentford back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Exeter City for a fee of £1.8 million.

Since then, the Englishman, who is currently valued at £10.8 million, has gone on to make 143 appearances for Brentford in which he has scored 49 goals and provided 17 assists along the way.

The 2019/20 season saw Watkins make a total of 49 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side in the Championship in which he managed to score 26 goals.

His performances in those league appearances has earned him a season rating of 7.26/10, making him Brentford’s second-highest rated player for the campaign.

TIF Thoughts…

Given how impressive Watkins has been for Brentford in the 2019/20 season, it’s no surprise that Dean Smith has put the attacker at the top of his transfer wish-list for this summer.

It will be interesting to see if Smith will get in touch with his previous club regarding a potential deal for Watkins in the coming weeks.
