Leeds United podcaster ‘Wraggy’ has suggested that Leeds’ reported interest in signing Robin Koch could just be a smokescreen for the club to sign Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White.

This comes after he made an appearance on the latest episode of the Talking Shutt Podcast where he spoke about a range of topics related to the Yorkshire club.

According to The Telegraph, Koch is a target for Leeds this summer as an apparent backup option for White, who spent last year on loan at Elland Road.

During the podcast, Wraggy had this to say on the matter of the reported Koch interest and how that may be linked with a move for White.

He said: “At this stage, we might not have even put a formal offer in, we might be playing it cool, we might be filtering these Koch rumours into it, just to try and force Brighton’s hand and make them a bit fearful, which is what you’ve got to do. You’ve got to play the game yourself as well.”

Earlier this month, it was reported that Leeds had two bids of £18.5 million and £22 million to sign White rejected by Brighton.

Just days later, it was reported in The Telegraph that Marcelo Bielsa’s side would move their attention to signing Koch if they give up on trying to sign White.

The Brighton defender spent the entirety of the 2019/20 season on loan at Elland Road and made quite a big impact during his spell there. Having made a total of 46 Championship appearances for the Whites, the defender earned himself a season rating of 7.09/10 for his performances, making him Leeds’ fifth-highest-rated player for their previous campaign.

TIF Thoughts…

With Leeds reportedly trying to sign White and Koch, they could yet be eyeing up a double defensive swoop this summer instead of just using Koch to try and force Brighton into selling White, as suggested in the podcast.

It will be interesting to see if Brighton do decide to sell White to Leeds or if the Yorkshire club choose to end their interest and move on and sign Koch instead.
