Leeds United journalist Phil Hay has been discussing the possibility of Marcelo Bielsa’s side making a summer transfer move for Brentford winger Said Benrahma.

This comes after Hay recently hosted an episode of The Phil Hay Show in which he spoke about a variety of news topics related to the Yorkshire club.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

On the subject of Benrahma, who has been linked with a move to Elland Road in recent weeks, Hay had this to say on the matter.

He said: “It’s such a key factor for Bielsa players who he can rely on to basically be good characters. Character is hugely important to him in his own way, even though he doesn’t engage with the players on a personal level and everything else, he likes, for example, your Jack Harrisons, your Kalvin Phillipses – guys that he can mould and guys who will go with him and will do what they’re told and follow his instructions – and it’s not to say that Benrahma wouldn’t do that – it’s just that I think they are starting to wonder whether or not that is really the route that they should go down.

“I wouldn’t rule it out entirely, because he is a very, very good player and you would think that he, of most players in the Championship, has the capacity to step up and to thrive in a higher division.”

Benrahma joined Brentford back in the 2018 summer transfer window from French club OGC Nice for a fee of £1.53 million.

Since then, the winger has gone on to make a total of 91 appearances for Brentford in which he has scored 28 goals and provided 27 assists for Thomas Frank’s side.

The 2019/20 season saw the 25-year-old make 46 appearances for Brentford in which he managed to score 17 goals and grab nine assists throughout the season.

The Algerian’s performances in those appearances earned him a season rating of 7.49/10, making him Brentford’s highest-rated player for their previous campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

Looking at how impressive Benrahma was for Brentford last season, it comes as no surprise that Leeds would be willing to sign the winger and see if he could perform at the same standard for them in the Premier League next season.
