Leeds United journalist Beren Cross caught the attention of some Whites fans on Twitter recently after he posted a tweet to share the news that the Yorkshire-based club has been ‘charged by the FA’ for their post-match celebrations following their clash with Derby County at Pride Park on 19th July.
The Whites earned promotion to England’s top flight for the 2020/21 campaign, ending their 16-year absence from the Premier League following their league-winning campaign in the Championship last term. Marcelo Bielsa’s side had secured the Championship title before their July meeting with Derby, which was their penultimate league fixture of the 2019/20 season.
Leeds still went on to beat Derby 3-1 at Pride Park and following that game, the Whites’ players ‘celebrated their achievements together pitchside’.
However, according to Beren Cross in an article that he recently wrote for LeedsLive, the FA has now charged the club ‘for celebrating their Championship title triumph too vigorously’ following that game.
After Cross shared this news via a tweet, plenty of Whites fans replied to the reporter’s post.
Leeds United charged by The FA in relation to Derby County celebrations.
"It is alleged the club failed to ensure its players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion as pyrotechnic devices were used following the conclusion of the fixture." #lufc

Some Leeds fans shared their discontent with this charge in response to Cross’ tweet.
What an absolute comedy….. the corruption continues……??????

Ridiculous. No fans allowed so the club made the best of it, and apparently even that was too much. Some pen pushers sucking the last bit of fun out of life. Maybe they need to spend more time looking after important things, like fraud in the game and dodgy loans, etc.

Do Leeds deserve to be charged for their celebrations?
YES
NO
Considering that their Championship title triumph ended a 16-year absence from England’s top flight for the Yorkshire-based club, we believe that it is harsh to reprimand the players for how they celebrated their title win, especially as Leeds’ fans were unable to attend the match and celebrate with them.
As a result, it is understandable why these Leeds fans aren’t pleased with this charge from the FA.
