According to recent reports, Everton are in ‘relentless negotiations’ with Napoli over a deal for central midfielder Allan.

The reports by Il Mattino (via Sport Witness) claim that Napoli are asking for a fee of around €40 million (£36.1 million) for the 29-year-old, with Everton needing to raise their unspecified offer by ‘a couple of million’ to land the player, who is said to be top of Carlo Ancelotti’s summer wishlist.

It is also reported that Everton have already agreed personal terms with the Brazil international, who will be on wages of around €4.8m per year (£4.3 million per year, or roughly £83,000 per week), although, there is no word on how long the contract will run.

Despite the fact that Allan made 23 appearances in Serie A for Napoli last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist, it appears that the Italian side are more than happy for the player to move on this summer, with it being said that Napoli manager, Gennaro Gattuso, has given his ‘blessing’ to the player’s sale.

There is also reports of other interest in Allan, with Inter Milan said to be keen on the player. However, with Everton having already agreed on personal terms with the 29-year-old, it would seem unlikely that interest from Inter would rock the boat too much.

TIF Thoughts…

Considering the fact that Everton’s central midfield signing of last season – Jean-Philippe Gbamin, had spent the vast majority of the season injured, the Toffees will likely be hoping that the £28.8 million-rated Allan, should his transfer go through, can come in and bring a bit of solidity to the middle of the park for Everton next season.
