Everton are reportedly eyeing a transfer swoop for FC Köln’s Colombian striker Jhon Cordoba in the summer transfer window.

According to reports in Colombia, which were cited by German publication Express, the Toffees are eyeing the 27-year-old frontman.

However, while Carlo Ancelotti is supposedly keen on making a move for Cordoba, reportedly the Merseyside outfit has to ‘thin out its squad’ before there is ‘concrete activities’ in the transfer market.

Furthermore, there is also reported interest from two other Premier League clubs which may give the Toffees competition.

As stated in Express’ report, Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United are also keen on the player.

The Colombian striker currently has one year left on his contract with his Bundesliga outfit and a market value of £10.8m according to Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

Over the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, Cordoba certainly proved himself to be a capable frontman for his German club.

In 29 league appearances, the 27-year-old attacker managed to bag 13 goals and two assists which earned him a 6.96/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

Had Cordoba earned the same average rating for Everton in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season, then he would have been their third-best performer (per WhoScored).

In comparison with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Bundesliga striker looks as though he would be a solid buy for the Toffees.

In the Premier League, Calvert-Lewin took 2.4 shots per game on average whereas Cordoba took 2.1 per Bundesliga game but the pair scored the same number of league goals, which the Colombian did in seven fewer games.

Furthermore, Cordoba made 0.9 key passes and completed 0.7 dribbles per match, which betters Calvert-Lewin’s 0.4 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game.

So, it would seem that the Colombian frontman could be a good purchase for the Toffees if the transfer link comes to fruition.
