Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein discussed Chelsea’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Kai Havertz.

The 21-year-old has been one of the stars of the Bundesliga this season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists over his 30 appearances in the competition, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.24 – ranking him as the club’s best performer in the league.

The attacking midfielder has also impressed in the Europa League for Leverkusen, scoring four goals and providing two assists over his five appearances, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.69.

As a result of these fine performances, the German international has been linked with a big-money move away from the club this summer, with Chelsea being the most prominent side linked with the £72.9 million-rated youngster.

Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, Ornstein provided an update on Chelsea’s potential move for Havertz.

He said: “The situation, I think, with Kai Havertz and Chelsea, will be fine.

“It just needs to be sorted out between Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen. That will take place, to my knowledge, after the Europa League final. That was always likely to be the case.

“We’ve seen with the Jadon Sancho situation that it’s not always easy. I can only go on the information that I’m being told, and that’s that Chelsea have indicated they’d be willing to pay what Leverkusen want and that they’ll end up with a fee in the region of €80 million.

“Again, I can’t say with absolute certainty, I can only report what I’m being told and that’s that it’s looking positive for Chelsea.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, considering the fact that Bayer Leverkusen are now out of the Europa League, after losing to Inter Milan in the quarter-finals of the tournament, it would seem as if, from Ornstein’s comments, that there is not much stopping Chelsea going on to secure a deal for the 21-year-old, believed to be somewhere around the €80 million (£72.4 million) mark, in the coming weeks.

With Frank Lampard already having added the £36 million signing of Hakim Ziyech and the £47.7 million signing of Timo Werner to the Chelsea squad this summer, the potential addition of Havertz would certainly leave the Blues looking like an incredibly exciting prospect next season.
