Aston Villa journalist James Rushton has been sharing his views on the possibility of Jack Grealish signing for Manchester United this summer and whether or not their pursuit of Jadon Sancho could impact a potential move for the Villa captain.

This comes after Rushton recently made an appearance on the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast where he spoke about a range of topics concerning Villa.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

It was recently revealed by Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc that Sancho would be remaining at the German club for the upcoming season and this came after it was reported that United were working on a deal to sign the Englishman, despite their reported interest in Grealish too. Rushton shared his thoughts on whether Dortmund’s stance on Sancho could impact a potential move for Grealish from United.

He said: “As a Villa fan, you don’t want to imagine Jack Grealish going out. I don’t know if the Sancho deal has much bearing at all on whatever they [Man United] choose to do with Jack Grealish because you know, they’re both different players at the end of the day. They can both do good things at a big club, as Grealish is doing at Villa.

“It means nothing – like, at the end of the day, they could sign both, they could sign neither. Until it happens, it happens.”

Grealish, who is currently valued at £36 million, was Villa’s standout performer during their 2019/20 Premier League season in which he scored eight goals and provided six assists in 36 league appearances.

TIF Thoughts…

It will be interesting to see if United decide to walk away from the Sancho deal and move their focus onto signing Grealish instead.

Looking at how impressive he was for Villa last season, it would be safe to assume that the Birmingham club would want to keep hold of their club captain for the foreseeable future and keep him out of United’s hands.
