Charles Watts, who reports on Arsenal for Goal, spent some time talking about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his contract talks with the north London club during a video that he recently posted to his YouTube channel

Aubameyang played a significant role for the Gunners last season, as he scored more than twice as many Premier League goals as any other Arsenal player during the 2019/20 campaign. The Gabonese forward’s 22 league goals made him the joint-second-highest goalscorer in England’s top-flight last season.

To kick off this 1990s Premier League quiz, which season was the Premier League's inaugural campaign?

However, the 31-year-old has currently got less than a year left on his contract and considering how impressive he was for the North London club last season, it mightn’t be surprising that reports have claimed that clubs such as Inter and Barcelona have ‘expressed their interest’ in signing the player and Juventus have also been ‘monitoring the situation,’ as per The Athletic.

Watts provided an update on the Gunners’ contract talks with Aubameyang during this recent YouTube video, saying: “Talks about the new contract have been going on since the end of last season, and beyond that, and Arsenal are very, very confident he will be signing a new contract.

“He’s been teasing it on social media, we’ve all seen it, it’s just basically everyone now waiting for that confirmation to come and with Aubameyang due back from holiday at the end of this week, hopefully, fingers crossed, we’re not going to have to wait too much more when it comes to the news that Arsenal’s captain has signed a new contract and will be staying at the Emirates for some time to come.”

So, judging by his comments, it appears that Watts doesn’t think Arsenal fans will have to wait too much longer to receive an update on Aubameyang’s future and knowing how important he was for the club last season, it can only be good news for Gunners supporters that the reporter doesn’t seem to have much doubt that the Gabonese forward’s future lies at the Emirates.
