Scottish midfielder and podcast pundit Paul Slane has been heaping praise on former Celtic and current Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.

Last summer, the Gunners completed the signing of the left-back from the Hoops for a fee of £25m (per BBC).

However, he arrived at the Emirates Stadium carrying a hip injury and after recovering from that in September, a shoulder injury kept him sidelined from December to March (per Transfermarkt).

So, in the latest episode of The Open Goal Podcast, Slane discussed the Scottish defender and heaped praise on him.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

He said: “There must have been a stage through the season when he was injured and Celtic were flying that maybe he thought, ‘Was this the right thing?’

“His mental strength is in the elite in the world, I think he’s one of the best in the world.

“He’s changed the whole mentality of that club [Arsenal], I believe. They’ve not got that winners’ mentality and I think he just changes it all, amazing.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Slane had to say, he clearly believes that Tierney’s mentality is what sets him apart from other players and that leads Slane to believe that he is “one of the best in the world”.

However, it is fair to say that during the 2019/20 Premier League season, Arsenal fans did not see the level that Slane claims the Scot is at.

Over 15 top-flight appearances, Tierney, who is valued at £25.2 million (Transfermarkt), delivered a 6.64/10 average rating which only made him the joint-15th-best performer for the Gunners in the league (per WhoScored).

So, judging from what the podcast pundit had to say, it may be fair to assume that the best is yet to come from the 23-year-old left-back at Arsenal.
