Luke Hatfield and Joseph Masi discussed the latest West Bromwich Albion transfer news during the most recent edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast and the pair spent some time talking about players who could potentially be departing from West Brom this summer during the show, one of whom was Jonathan Leko.

Leko joined Charlton Athletic on loan from West Brom back in August 2019. The winger returned to his parent club in January after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in December that ended his 2019/20 campaign.

To kick off this quiz on West Bromwich Albion's 2019/20 season, how many points did the Baggies end the 2019/20 Championship campaign with?

However, prior to that injury, Leko had been enjoying a relatively positive spell on loan at The Valley, as he scored five goals and provided four assists in his 21 league appearances for the Addicks.

Despite playing his last game for the club in December, he was Charlton’s fourth-highest goalscorer and joint-second-highest assist provider for the entirety of the 2019/20 Championship season.

The Telegraph recently published a report in which it was mentioned that Leko is ‘available’ for transfer this summer and Hatfield talked about the 21-year-old when discussing players that could potentially be leaving the Baggies in the current transfer window during this recent edition of the Baggies Broadcast podcast.

In response to Hatfield, Masi had this to say about the player and the possibility of him leaving the club this summer during the show: “Jonathan Leko, that’s a strange one, to be honest, he’s going nowhere soon, he’s injured.

“He’s months away from being fit, so no one’s going to be after Jonathan Leko at this moment in time. He’ll definitely be there at least until January, I’d say.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, while it has been reported that Leko, who is valued at £1.17 million (as per Transfermarkt), will be available for transfer this summer, Masi believes that the 21-year-old will not be leaving the club until January at the earliest due to his cruciate ligament injury, which may not come as a surprise considering that the player hasn’t played a competitive match since December.

However, according to Transfermarkt, Leko is in the last year of his contract with Albion and the Baggies may be at risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer if they don’t decide to offer him a new contract or can’t find a new club for him in the current transfer window.
