Duncan Castles has been speaking on the latest episode of The Transfer Window Podcast, and he has been discussing the future of Ben White.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

Castles discussed various topics in the episode, but he did provide some insight into the Ben White situation as Leeds have seen three bids rejected for the 22-year-old.

It seems as if Brighton & Hove Albion are looking for an extraordinary fee of £55m and that Leeds have had all of their offers so far rejected.

He said: “Ben White’s a fascinating case in point here, because a 22-year-old who has not played a single game in the Premier League, not played a first-team competitive game for his parent club, Brighton, but he has Liverpool, Chelsea interested in him.

“Other top English clubs [are] looking at him, Leeds United, I believe, have made three bids already having had him on loan for a season; they’ve made three bids so far, had them all rejected by Brighton.”

Castles then goes on to reveal what sort of price the Seagulls want for White.

“I understand the figure that Brighton would be looking at to sell him is £55m or more, which, as you say, is a remarkable fee for a player who has zero Premier League experience.”

Do you believe Brighton want £55m for White?

No, that is ridiculous

No, that is ridiculous

Yes, but it is far too much

TIF Thoughts…

Leeds’ last bid of around £30m would smash their record of £18m for Rio Ferdinand, and Angus Kinnear did confirm that the Whites were willing to spend around £75-100m on transfers this summer but could they justify spending £55m on White?

The 22-year-old started every game for Marcelo Bielsa’s men in the league and earned an average rating of 7.09/10 (per WhoScored).

Still, he has never played in the Premier League, and the Seagulls have a lot other centre-backs, so to demand £55m seems ridiculous.

We will just have to see if Castles is right and that is the fee that Brighton indeed want, or if the Whites could bring the 22-year-old back to Elland Road for less.
