BBC Scotland’s chief sports writer Tom English discussed the reports linking Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos with a move to Ligue 1 club Lille during his appearance on a recent edition of the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast.

Reports recently emerged claiming that Lille ‘have reached an agreement’ with the Colombian forward ‘over a possible summer move from Rangers,’ as per RMC Sport, via Get French Football News. This report also stated that ‘negotiations have now begun between Rangers and the Ligue 1 club to find an agreement.’

Morelos also recently spoke to Colombian outlet Caracol stating that while he is “focused on Rangers” at the moment, his ‘favourite leagues’ are those in England, Spain, and France.

English shared his thoughts on the latest reports regarding Morelos’ future and 24-year-old’s recent interview with Caracol, during his appearance on the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast, saying: “He’s done an interview with Colombian TV last week, hasn’t he? And he’s talked about playing in France. Then the Lille thing comes along, people are adding two and two together.

“I think there’s something in this without a doubt. I would imagine that Morelos would want to play in France, this move would appeal to him at this stage of his career, it’s a question of how much money Rangers can get for him.”

Is there any chance of Morelos staying at Rangers for the 2020/21 season?

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by his comments on this recent edition of the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast, it appears as though English believes that there is truth in the reports linking Morelos with Lille. The fact that English said “it’s a question of how much money Rangers can get for him” at this point indicates that he may not think it’s particularly likely that the Glasgow-based club will retain the services of the Colombian attacker for the 2020/21 season.
