Scottish coach Steven Pressley, who most recently managed Carlisle United, appeared on a recent edition of the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast to discuss the latest Scottish football news and he spent some time talking about the future of Rangers attacker Alfredo Morelos during the show.
It may be fair to say that Morelos has been a key player for Rangers since moving to Ibrox back in the summer of 2017. No Rangers player scored more goals than the Colombian forward scored in either the 2017/18 season, the 2018/19 season, or the 2019/20 season.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Gers recently, with Ligue 1 side Lille said to be in negotiations with the Glasgow-based club to secure the £13.5m-rated man’s signature.
Pressley spent some time discussing the speculation around Morelos and his future during his recent appearance on the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast, saying: “It’s inevitable that [Alfredo] Morelos will leave Rangers. I think both parties have made it clear. I think that his time has come to an end at the club.
“The reality is, I think, that Morelos wanted out in January. I think that Rangers did well to manage him through the period, I think there was a definite drop in his performances on the back of that, but I think that in his own mind he’s ready to go.”
Do you think that Morelos wants to be at Rangers for the 2020/21 season?
YES
NO
TIF Thoughts…
It may be understandable why Pressley believes that Morelos wanted to leave Rangers before now, considering that the Colombian forward shared that he wanted to “make the move to a bigger, more competitive league” back in October 2019.
More recently, the attacker spoke to Caracol to share his admiration for the leagues in Spain, England, and France.
With all of that in mind, it appears that, as Pressley explained, the attacker does have his mind on a move away from Ibrox and it may be understandable why Pressley believes “it’s inevitable that Morelos will leave Rangers.”
