Stewart Weir and David Wren joined host Ross Bennett to discuss all things Rangers on the latest edition of the Gersnet podcast and one of the topics of discussion that came up during the show is Alfredo Morelos and the possibility of him leaving Ibrox this summer.

Reports have been linking Morelos with a move away from Rangers lately. The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell recently wrote an article discussing Ligue 1 club Lille’s pursuit of the 24-year-old forward, claiming that ‘Rangers have rejected an offer in the region of £13m plus bonuses’ for the Colombian.

During this recent edition of the Gersnet podcast, Bennett questioned Wren about Morelos’ value and the journalist discussed what he believes the Colombian attacker is worth in response to the host, saying: “If you offered me £15m and maybe a decent sell-on clause, I probably would take that but anywhere between 15 and 18 [million], I think would be fair enough.

“He’s fallen off a bit from where we were [at] wintertime, so I think between 15 and 18, but I think that sell-on clause is key for us. As a club, I think we need to be really looking at the best way to move players on and ensure that it’s the best for us because I think for many years, we’ve not done that and it’s come back to bite us.

“So if we’re going to let go of someone like Morelos, we want to make sure that we’re not only making the best possible deal happen now, but that we’re going to benefit in the future as well.”

Would you accept a bid of £15-18m for Morelos?

TIF Thoughts…

Wren seems to believe that £15-£18m, in addition to “a decent sell-on clause” would be an acceptable compensation for the Gers to receive for Morelos this summer. If the club shares a similar view as this reporter and also value Morelos at around £15-18m, then the two clubs may not be too far away from reaching an agreement on this deal, if The Athletic’s report claiming that Lille have already submitted a bid in the region of £13m is to be believed.

This report from The Athletic explains that Lille are currently ‘set to sell their 2019/20 top scorer Victor Osimhen to Italy’s Napoli for upwards of £45m’ and considering that the French side signed Osimhen for £12.6m from Belgian side RSC Charleroi just last summer, it may be understandable why the Gers believe that Lille could sell Morelos for a hefty profit in the future and it mightn’t be a surprise that Wren believes that a “sell-on clause is key” in this deal.
