Journalists David Wren and Stewart Weir joined Ross Bennett on the latest edition of the Gersnet podcast to discuss the latest goings-on with Scottish Premiership club Rangers and one of the topics of discussion that came up during the show is the possibility of the Gers making a move for 23-year-old Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove.

Alfredo Morelos has been linked with a move away from Rangers lately and during this recent edition of the Gersnet podcast, the panel spent some time discussing possible replacements for the 24-year-old Colombian forward.

One of the names that was discussed during the show as being a potential addition to the attacking options at Ibrox for the 2020/21 campaign was Aberdeen’s Cosgrove and while talking about the possibility of the Englishman moving to the Glasgow-based club, Weir explained why he believes that transfer may not be likely to happen.

He said: “If you are led to believe what Aberdeen apparently knocked back for him a couple of weeks back, personally speaking, I don’t think Rangers are going to bid anything like that for him as a number-two striker, let alone a number-one striker.”

Do you think Cosgrove will move to Rangers this summer?

TIF Thoughts…

As per the BBC, Aberdeen had actually accepted ‘a bid of more than £2m’ for Cosgrove earlier this month from French side En Avant Guingamp, however, the attacker turned down that move.

This may give us an indication of Aberdeen’s valuation of the forward, however, Weir appears to believe that the Gers would not value the Englishman in that same ballpark and as a result, it may be understandable why he believes that a potential move from Aberdeen to Rangers for the 23-year-old is unlikely to occur this summer.
