Scottish football journalist Tam Cowan and ex-Scotland international forward Frank McAvennie joined host Kenny Macintyre on the latest edition of the BBC Sportsound’s Scottish Football podcast to discuss the latest Scottish football news, where the future of Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos was one of the topics of discussion.

Morelos has been linked with a move away from Ibrox recently, with The Athletic’s Rangers correspondent Jordan Campbell reporting that while the 24-year-old ‘has his heart set on a move to French side Lille’, the Gers have ‘rejected an offer in the region of £13m plus bonuses’ for the Colombian attacker. More recently, West Bromwich Albion, who were promoted to England’s top-flight from the Championship last week, were also linked with a move for the attacker.

During his recent appearance on the Sportsound podcast, Scottish Sun columnist McAvennie shared his thoughts on Morelos’ future and the possibility that he will leave Ibrox this summer.

He said: “Steven Gerrard’s been in the game long enough to know. He’ll know him, and if he’s wanting a move, Stevie will get him a move, I would think. If you’ve got a player in that dressing room that doesn’t want to be there, it’s infectious.”

McAvennie then went on to say that if it’s the case that Morelos doesn’t want to be at Rangers anymore, then “they’ve got to get rid of him.”

Should Rangers sell Morelos if he doesn't want to be at the club?

TIF Thoughts…

It may be understandable why McAvennie believes that if Morelos doesn’t want to be at Rangers, then manager Steven Gerrard will ‘get him a move’, especially when you consider that when Gerrard first arrived at Ibrox back in 2018, he said: “If there are people who don’t fancy it and want to be somewhere else and don’t fancy adapting to what we demand, good luck to them.”

With that in mind, it may not be a big surprise if Morelos does end up departing from Rangers this summer if the reports claiming that he would like to join Lille are to be believed.
