Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has been discussing the possible departure of the club’s striker, Alfredo Morelos.

Reports have emerged linking the forward with a move away from Ibrox, claiming that he has “agreed personal terms” with the French side Lille. Despite the rumours, Rangers insist there has been no contact from the Ligue 1 club and a transfer fee is yet to be agreed.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the 24-year-old is valued at £13.5m and Morelos has gone on record as saying it would “be good to go to a more competitive league” earlier this week whilst refusing to kill the speculation regarding a potential move away from Rangers this summer.

When discussing how the club would go about looking for a replacement on a recent edition of the Blues Brothers Podcast, Ferguson said: “There doesn’t seem to be any panic at the moment, certainly from the management team at Rangers, and that probably tells me they’ve already got a replacement in place.”

Morelos arrived at Ibrox back in July 2017 from HJK Helsinki in a deal reportedly worth £1.08m (via Transfermarkt.co.uk) and so it is clear that since signing for the Glasgow-based club his transfer value has increased significantly.

TIF Thoughts…

The Colombian international has scored 77 goals and provided 29 assists in 137 appearances for the Gers (via Transfermarkt.co.uk), therefore, it could be argued he would be difficult to replace. Morelos scored 12 goals in 26 Scottish Premiership appearances last season and had a hand in 23% of the club’s total league goals.

Perhaps some supporters will take encouragement from the fact that Ferguson believes the club may have already identified the player they wish to replace their outgoing striker with.
