On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Alasdair Gold and Darren Lewis have been reflecting on the north London club’s season and looking ahead to the 2020/21 campaign.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled ‘Spurs Secure Europe‘, was the failed signing of Bruno Fernandes. The north London club were heavily linked with a move for the Portuguese international last summer but in January he joined Manchester United and has been superb in his time with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side thus far, having contributed eight goals and seven assists in 14 top-flight appearances, averaging a superb 7.73/10 rating (per WhoScored).

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what Lewis had to say about the 25-year-old on the podcast:

“They were talking about signing Bruno Fernandes. It was all over the place. I know the manager’s got a lot of faith in Giovani Lo Celso, and hopefully, he will come good, but I would venture to suggest that Fernandes is a [special] player, and he’s had a transformative effect on Manchester United. I think there will be some regret for a long, long time that Spurs missed the boat on Bruno Fernandes, a player who could have lifted players around him [and] could have scored goals from midfield.”

TIF Thoughts…

Jose Mourinho suggested not too long ago that he wouldn’t swap Lo Celso for Fernandes if he was given the choice, but when you consider the goals and assists tally that the Portuguese attacker has racked up in his brief time in the Premier League so far compared to the Argentinian’s disappointing return of zero goals and two assists, you can perhaps see why Lewis feels Spurs made a mistake in not signing the former Sporting Lisbon man.

Who would you rather have in midfield?

It will be interesting to see if the 25-year-old can maintain his form with United next season, and whether or not we see Lo Celso push on with Spurs and start adding more goals and assists to his game.
